Climate Bound by the Tasman Sea on one side and the Southern Alps on the other, the West Coast is subject to intense contrasts. Rainfall is higher during spring (September to November) and there is relatively high number of sunshine hours per year. Temperatures are surprisingly mild and constant, with summer days reaching an average maximum air temperature of 20ºC with an extreme of 30ºC inland, and humidity of 80%. Snow rarely falls on the lowlands and frosts are very mild in the coastal areas. |
